Breathless Delhi - Red Alert!!!

Every year, the season of winter creates choking and bottleneck situation for the dwellers of Delhi-NCR.

The flavor of winter finally turns out to be curse for all ages of life (children, youth and old).
Are we not aware of the situation? Do we definitely care?

Air pollution, SMOG, Delhi, choking, breathless need of the hour

We acclimatize ourselves to the alarming situation, but to remind, also get trapped in the blanket of toxic particulate matter. The most infected ones include the babies, school going children and the elderly people.

Some Interesting Facts:-

Delhi and Beijing were once tough competitors for the infamous rank of world’s most polluted city but slowly things changed. Delhi kept on rising whereas Beijing managed to tackle the situation with a complete strategy. The action plan included identification of most polluted regions and setting time bound reduction targets. Major steps included:-
  • Reduction in coal consumption by imposing penalties
  • Strict norms for industrial pollution
  • Greenary schemes
  • Restriction on launch of new vehicles (fuel efficient)
Apart from these, large scale smog vacuum cleaners were also installed in pivotal locations that purified the air at nano level and released clean air to the nearby parks & playgrounds.

What Delhi needs today?
  • Regional coordination for Delhi-NCR and neighboring states like Haryana, Punjab and UP.
  • Target based schemes
  • Large scale plantation programmed at each level
  • Strict penalties on massive crop burning, industrial release
  • Restriction on usage of private vehicles during peak season promoting car pooling and public transport.
Rather than adding fuel to turn the topic to some hot trending debate item for the media, we as individuals can take small initiatives before the onset of Winter to eradicate the impact. Because if not today, than NEVER!!!
